The first dance as newlyweds generally holds a lot of significance for most couples. It can symbolize your new connection as a married couple and offer a beautiful moment for you and your guests to share your unity. It's a beautiful way to express your love for your partner as well as create a lasting sentiment towards a specific song or artist. One thing that’s often debated about is WHEN to best fit in your first dance during the reception. As wedding planners, we want to make sure our couples explore all options to create the perfect wedding day timeline that will fit them best. So, here are a few options to perfectly time your first dance:

At the beginning of the reception: Having your first dance at the very beginning of your reception, right after being announced the new Mr. and Mrs. is a great way to kick off the celebration and it helps get all your guests excited. Guests are usually refreshed after the ceremony and are most attentive here.
During Dinner: Dancing your first dance when all your guests are seated and enjoying their dinner is a great way to ensure your guests are relaxed and comfortable, which makes them more likely to enjoy the moment. It may help take some of the pressure off the dance, knowing your guests are enjoying a feast and not entirely focused on watching you .It can serve as a nice transition into dancing after dinner.
After Toasts: Toasts generally happen towards the tail-end of dinner. By placing your first dance right after the toasts finish, it can create a nice flow from dinner to dancing and mingling. Guests are usually emotionally engaged from the speeches, which allows for a smooth transition into the first dance.

After Cake Cutting: Placing your first dance after you cut the cake can allow for you guests to take a quick rest from enjoying the celebration and indulge in some dessert while watching you dance. It can serve a nice transition during the night into more celebratory dancing and mingling. Sometimes, placing the first dance towards the end of the night is a great way to close out the celebration and can also help communicate to your guests the night is coming to an end.
Whichever timing you choose, it’s all about what feels best for you and your celebration! So, discuss it with your partner, consider the time that flows best with your timeline and just go with it and enjoy! It’s all about whatever works best for you, and as long as you two cherish and enjoy your first dance as newlyweds, then it’ll be perfect!!!
